Band

Greenwich Public School has a popular Band Program. Currently there are two bands, a Training Band and a Concert Band, String Ensemble and two Recorder Ensembles. Membership of each is determined by musical experience and ability, not by seniority in school years. The Senior Recorder Ensemble performs annually at the instrumental festival at the Opera House.

All the bands are under the musical direction of qualified conductors. Administration of the Band Program is carried out by a Band Committee which is a subcommittee of the school’s P&C Association

The aims of the Programs are to provide musical enrichment through playing the instrument in one of the school bands. At the same time, the program aims to achieve a high performance standard and to encourage the development of teamwork in a happy atmosphere. By participating in our music program students will:

• develop confidence and self-esteem by performing in public
• develop competence in working in a group
• develop an enjoyment of music

Through the musical programs offered:

• the school’s reputation is enhanced
• the school’s curriculum is enriched.
